Does the dimmer switch save power?
2019-10-14

Over the years, the energy-saving capacity of lighting has grown rapidly until today. In the commercial and industrial sectors, many companies are converting from older luminaires such as metal halides and other HID lamps to LED luminaires. In addition to energy-efficient LEDs, LEDs can also bring older types of lighting, and commercial dimmers can even significantly reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing your facility's utility bills every month.

So what is a dimmer, dimmer can save energy, should I use a dimmer switch? find out the answer!

What is a dimmer switch?

The dimmer switch of the LED light gives you control over a simple panel to change the amount of light produced by one or more lighting devices. You can turn the light down to the level you want, or you can increase it to the extent your design allows.

By using a commercial dimmer switch, you can change the light to suit your mood, mood and even any time of the day, depending on your needs and facility guidelines.

Now, the question you are waiting for is whether the commercial dimmer switch can save energy?

Is the dimmer switch saving power?

The answer is yes, the dimmer switch does save energy. But let's talk about the history of dimmer switches and how far they have gone.

In the past, LED dimmer switches were unable to reduce energy consumption due to the way they work. Instead of reducing the amount of energy used, they convert unused energy into heat rather than the full lighting capacity of the bulb. Today, dimmer switches for LED lights can actually work by reducing energy consumption, and use only enough energy to power the bulb when using the dimmer settings.

Today, some dimmer switches use a switch called a "triac." The three-terminal thyristor works by cutting off the power of the lighting device every second, up to 120 times per second (variable). Therefore, the human eye cannot detect the flicker and only sees a constant flow of light. However, although triacs are used for smaller bulbs, larger fixtures use 0-10v dimmers.

The 0-10v dimmer is quiet and easy to master, as it is one of the earliest and simplest dimmers. When the dimmer is at 10V, consider it, which will generate 100% of the light from the lighting. In 5v, 50% is generated, 4v is 40%, and so on.

How the dimmer switch saves you energy, there are some technical information behind it, now you should use the dimmer switch.

Should we use a dimmer switch?

Everyone's situation is different, your device may be suitable for dimmer switches, or it may not be suitable for dimmer switches. In general, dimmers may not be needed if the lights are used only at maximum capacity and the dimming lights are not used due to the time of use.

Also, if you plan to use some light when you need some light in the day but not all, you can reasonably buy some dimmer switches. Also, if you need to create some types of work environments throughout the day and do this by changing the lumen output of the lights, the dimmer will be a good choice.

Dimming switch with LED

Are all LED products dimmable? No. To dim, the product must include a triac dimming LED driver or a 0-10V LED driver. Both indoor and outdoor products benefit from dimming. Outdoor lights (such as parking lights) can be equipped with motion sensors and automatically dim when motion is not detected. Indoor products (such as 10ft LED shop lighting) can be similarly dimmed by motion sensors, or they can be specifically set to change the amount of light to the optimum amount of light.
