Camp lighting you need to know
2019-09-22

Watching the sunset while camping is one of the easiest things in life. However, as the sun immerses, your line of sight increases. This gives you the right lighting solution when you camp. Trying to see the instrument in front of you is not only a safety issue, but can be frustrating.

Fortunately for us, technology continues to grow at a rapid rate, and camping lighting is not to be missed. Today, you can comfortably illuminate camps with a variety of technologies that are inexpensive, easy to use and economical to operate. Camping should be comfortable, and if you find that a lack of lighting solutions can avoid this, then this article will help you prepare.

What has changed over the years?

I remember a little boy sitting by the river, next to a gas lamp, trying to see other people only a few meters away. They are large, clumsy, need fuel, are easily damaged, and children can easily burn themselves (as far as I know!).

Today, camping lights are cheaper, more durable, brighter, easier to use and more compact than ever before. With the introduction of LEDs and the development of solar technology, batteries have also improved. Remember the old Dolphin torch you used to wrap? Now you'll get a torch that can drain its battery life and light output by a quarter of their size and weight.

LED lighting improvements

In terms of lighting, the biggest advancement over the years has been LED technology. They are also known as light-emitting diodes, which have high brightness, low power consumption and long life compared to similar diodes. As time goes by, they become more and more popular, so their prices are very affordable.

Today, almost all lights designed for camping use LEDs. Some are bright enough to be seen in the tent, while others are strong enough to see a few hundred meters in front of you. I won't tell you that some tactical flashlights and headlights on the market are brighter than the vehicle headlights.

Advances in battery technology

Today, almost all of the power tools on the market are battery powered and can even be purchased from battery powered chainsaws! Fifteen years ago, if you made a suggestion, people would laugh. We have come a long way compared to standard AA batteries. Now, the battery is more compact, can store more energy, and can continue to use more cycles.

12V compatible lighting

If you set the 4WD or vehicle to have the proper 12V power supply (a dual battery system is ideal), then the choice of camping light will be unlimited. Whether it's LED floodlights, strip lighting or compact lighting, the ability to connect to a 12V power supply gives you tremendous potential.

LED strip

One of the most common lights you will see during these camping days is the LED light. A row of LEDs mounted in a waterproof membrane. They are cheap, bright, and low power, and can be installed by almost anyone. You can cut it every 10 cm or so and then easily add and paste it onto almost any object. Some stores sell pre-wired LED strip lighting with a cigarette lighter plug on one end, or you can make it yourself.

Solar and Wind-up Lights

No matter which way you go, it can be the right pain, that is, to replace the battery. There are a lot of torches and lanterns on the market today, so you don't need to replace the battery. Some require you to wrap the handle to generate electricity, while others require charging via built-in or separate solar panels. Of course, these can bring a series of problems of their own, but for the right purpose, they are great.

Especially the clockwork is very good. If you don't have a light, just roll it up and you can use it again. For lanterns with lower light output (such as the lanterns you use in tents), solar energy is also a good choice, as long as you remember to put them in the sun on sunny days. Keep in mind that if you are camping on a cloudy or rainy day, you may need an alternate option!

The technological development of LEDs provides a better choice for camp lighting. Whether it is from a safe or portable perspective, LED lighting is the best choice for camp lighting.
